The Beatles’ 1968 animated movie Yellow Submarine is coming to DVD and Blu-ray on May 28th, according to The National Post. The film has been given a 4k digital restoration, with workers tweaking the image frame by frame rather than using automated software. Depending on the format, special features will include a behind-the-scenes documentary, commentary, interviews, reproductions of animation cels, collectible stickers, sketches, and a 16-page essay on the film by John Lasseter.
Billboard adds that the Yellow Submarine album will be re-released alongside the film, and a hardcover book that “combines the film’s script with original artwork from the movie”, will be released in April. A digital version of that book is available now as a free download from Apple’s iBookstore.
